Good products live. Bad products die. Let’s livetogether.

๐Ÿ›’ Marketplaces live or die by the flywheel. Differentiated supply pulls in demand. A great product keeps them. Word of mouth compounds. When sellers make money, more sellers show up, and around it goes. ๐Ÿ”

Most marketplaces don’t fail because the model breaks. They fail because the product gets tired. ๐Ÿ˜ด The interface bloats, the experience slows down, and someone cleaner and faster eats their lunch.

When growth slows, the reflex is to squeeze the lemon. ๐Ÿ‹ Take a bigger cut. Add fees. Push conversion harder.

That works for a quarter, and it hurts for years.

The better move is a better product. โœจ First, a core experience so good there’s no reason to leave. Then extend beyond the initial match: give both sides reasons to keep working on the platform, not around it. Insurance, services, tools, add-ons. Utility that makes the whole job easier, keeps the relationship on-platform, and quietly grows revenue. That’s what earns repeat use, and repeat use is what brings the next customer in the door.

I help founders build the simple, well-made core that keeps the flywheel spinning, and figure out what’s worth adding around it. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ That’s true whether you’re starting cold or defending something mature.

I work fractional or by the project, usually three to six months. ๐Ÿค

I’ve spent most of my career building products for two-sided marketplaces. I currently lead core product at Care.com, where I’ve grown match rates between seekers and providers by more than 12% and am rebuilding the end-to-end experience from the ground up. Before that, I led product, design, and engineering at Outdoorsy (Series B to D), Mothership (Series A to B), and Spot (Series A).

๐Ÿค– I started out in machine learning and AI at Google, X (formerly Twitter), and Expedia Group, where I co-authored computer vision research (SRGAN, 17,000+ citations; compressive autoencoders, 1,500+ citations) before focusing on marketplace products: supply, demand, matching, fulfillment, and the systems that connect them. More on LinkedIn.

I’ve advised marketplaces from Seed to Series D and private profitable businesses, worked at companies from Seed to public, and helped raise Seed, A, B, C, and D rounds.
